ReWaste is Yarra Valley Water’s food waste to energy facility. Located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, our first facility opened in 2017. The facility uses anaerobic digestion technology to process up to 140 tonnes of food waste and generate 22,000kWh of electricity a day. Embracing the circular economy, the facility diverts commercial food waste from landfill, mitigating greenhouse gas pollution while generating biogas that is converted into renewable electricity. Following the success of this award-winning facility, Yarra Valley Water has a second ReWaste facility under construction in Lilydale. This facility in the eastern suburbs is due to open early 2025.
